Update: SC Highway Patrol confirms fatality in I-20 crash
Gilbert, SC (Paul Kirby) – The SC Highway Patrol has confirmed a fatality in the Monday afternoon crash at the 48 mm of I-20. The accident occurred at approximately 1:40 P.M
According to Lance Corporal David Jones of the SCHP, a 2013 Nissan Versa was travelling east on I-20 when it left the interstate and struck an abutment of the Calks Ferry Road overpass. The car the caught fire. The driver of that car, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators from the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Lexington County coroner’s office were on the scene looking into the accident late Monday afternoon.
