Lexington One HOSA Students Shine

LEXINGTON, S.C. — Showing they possess the talent and knowledge needed as future medical professionals, students from four Lexington District One high schools took first-place awards in categories ranging from pathophysiology to biomedical debate to veterinary science at the South Carolina Health Occupations Students of America State Leadership Conference, held March 8–10 in Charleston.

Gilbert High first-place winners include Blythe A. Faulkner, Andrew L. Kyzer and Yessica Ramirez for Medical Innovations — Advanced; Marena O. Fleming and Isabella D. Fralick for Community Emergency Response Team; Harliann N. Hendrix, Kayla R. LaCroix, Cheyenne N. McCune and Leanne N. McCune for Biomedical Debate Team; Lara K. Pritchard for Medical Law and Ethics; and Abigail R. Wills for Veterinary Sciences.

Representing Lexington Technology Center, first-place winners include Lexington High Junior Trevor A. Bond for Healthy Lifestyles; LHS Sophomore Paul T. Kim for Dental Terminology; LHS Senior Ratna H. Patel for Pathophysiology; and LHS Sophomore Winni Zheng for Human Growth and Development.

White Knoll Seniors Caitlin D. Murray and Jenny L. Nankoua Yongue won first place for Original Medical Innovation, while fellow WKHS Senior Jennifer F. Tucker won first place for Nursing Assisting.

River Bluff High Senior R. Colton Metcalfe picked up first place for Clinical Specialty.

A Lexington One educator also received recognition at the conference. Nicholas J. Hanle, an instructor and HOSA adviser at the district’s Center for Public Health and Advanced Medical Studies at WKHS, received the South Carolina HOSA Outstanding Service Award for going above and beyond in planning events for the center’s HOSA chapter.
