Two Lexington County fire fighter families have babies on the same day

Lexington County, SC (Angelica Iglesias) – Two Lexington County fire fighters, one currently serving and one who recently retired, both had new babies join their families on Tuesday, May 9. Both of these babies were due May 16, but were born a week early. By some other great coincidence, both babies were the same length and weight.

Marion and Jessica Wooten welcomed a beautiful baby girl named Mankenzi into the world at 2:27am. Just 13 minutes later, at 2:40am, Chris and Jenn Shirey welcomed a healthy baby boy named Gavin.

MacKenzi is Marion’s second child and Jessica’s first born child. Marion has a 12-year-old son, Reid, from a previous marriage, who could not have been more thrilled to be a big brother. Reid is a member of the White Knoll Middle School football team, but could not wait to get home from practice to spend the rest of the day with his new little sister.

Gavin is Chris and Jenn’s second child. They have a daughter, Zoey, who is four and a half. She was so happy about becoming a big sister that she did not want to go to school because she did not want to leave her baby brother’s side.

Marion Wooten retired from the Lexington County Fire Department last month. He was with the department for 25 years.

He met Chris Shirey nine years ago when Shirey started with the Lexington County Fire Department in Pelion. They have been friends ever since. Shirey is now with the Oak Grove Fire Department.

MacKenzi was born at Lexington Medical Center, and Gavin was born at Palmetto Health Baptist. Both families could not be happier about welcoming a new member to their families.
