Summers Selected as Rotary Student of the Month

Batesburg-Leesville, SC - Batesburg-Leesville High School senior Hattie Grace Summers has been selected as the April Rotary Student of the Month. Hattie Grace serves as president of Batesburg-Leesville High School’s Student Body and presides over the Student Council. She also serves as Beta Club president and is a member of Student Leadership, Science Club, FBLA, Interact and The Pack. Hattie Grace was also recently crowned as 2017 Miss B-L Panther. In addition to her involvement in student activities, she is a 6 year varsity letterman and served as captain of the cheer team for football and basketball and has been a member of the competition cheer team, spirit cheer, soccer, tennis, and track teams. She volunteers in numerous community programs and has earned the Duke of Edinburgh gold award for two years, as well as the Presidential Gold Award for three years. In the fall, Hattie Grace will attend The College of Charleston and major in Business & Marketing with a minor in Hospitality. She is the daughter of Jamie and Carla Summers

This year, the Rotary Clubs and Batesburg-Leesville High School have provided a designated parking space for the Rotary Students of the Month. Each month’s winner will be allowed to park in the space for an entire month.

Students of the month are named for September through April. From the eight students of the month, one student is selected to receive the Rotary Club of Batesburg-Leesville Scholarship. The scholarship winner is recognized at the May 2017 Rotary meeting. Batesburg-Leesville High School students who will graduate in May 2017 are eligible to be nominated by faculty members each month. Nominations should be students who exhibit good character, leadership potential, above average academic ability, and who participate in community service. After nominations are received, B-L High faculty will vote on a Student of the Month. The students of the month will submit a scholarship application to the Batesburg-Leesville High School Guidance Department and a committee of B-L Rotary members will select the scholarship winner.

The Rotary Clubs of Batesburg-Leesville are members of Rotary International. Rotary is a service organization dedicated to community development and the exploration of different careers.
