Midday blaze damages part of The Views on Longcreek apartment complex

As many as six apartments damaged by fire.

Columbia, SC (James Bowers) - Several residents of the Views on Longcreek apartment complex were displaced after a fire ravaged a portion of one of the complex’s central buildings Thursday afternoon. Columbia Fire Department Public Information Officer Brick Lewis said that his agency received a report of the fire around 1:40 p.m., and units from both Columbia and Irmo’s departments quickly responded to the development.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, and limited the damage to roughly 6 apartments according to Lewis. Exact figures for displaced residence were not yet available, but Lewis stated that there were no injuries as a result of the fire.

Lewis cited the “automatic aid” arrangement with Irmo Fire District as an effective cooperative effort that helped the city’s firefighters in combatting the blaze. “It’s a great partnership between our agencies, they provide aid to us, and we do so for them. They were on the scene quickly, and we were able to get the fire out quickly and limit damage,” Lewis said.

The Richland County Fire Marshall’s office is investigating a possible cause, and will release their findings soon.
