GPS teachers honored by alma maters

Gilbert, SC — Two new members of the Gilbert Primary School teaching staff received recognition from their alma maters.

GPS Immersion Teacher Jennifer I. Hernandez won Columbia College’s 2016–2017 Division of Education Early Childhood Education Major of the Year. She is a December 2016 graduate of Columbia College’s Early Childhood Education program and joined GPS in January 2017.

Also joining GPS in January 2017 after graduating in December, GPS Kindergarten Teacher Sarah H. Boykin received the 2016–2017 USC Aiken Outstanding Student in Early Childhood Education award. The university’s education department annually honors one student who exemplifies the qualities of an outstanding early childhood educator.

Both educators were recognized at the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees meeting, held Tuesday, May 16, 2017.
