Jimenez returns to Lexington District One

LEXINGTON, S.C. — During the April 25, 2017 regular monthly meeting of the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees, the board approved the administration’s recommendation that Maria T. Jimenez join Lexington District One’s Special Services Office as Elementary Special Education Coordinator. Jimenez replaces Cathy Mathias, who retires at the end of this year.
Jimenez, an educator for 16 years, currently serves as Dreher Cluster Special Education consultant in the Office of Special Education in Richland County School District One.
Prior to that, she worked as a special education teacher in Carolina Springs Middle and White Knoll Middle schools in Lexington District One. She began her career in the White Plains City School District in White Plains, New York.
Jimenez, who is bilingual, earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and a Master of Science in education from Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, and a Master of Education from the University of South Carolina.
A National Board Certified Teacher, she holds certifications in elementary PreK–6, multi-categorical special education K–12 and secondary educational administration.
Jimenez is a member of the Council for Exceptional Children and the South Carolina Educational Association.
