Boy home safe after disappearing Sunday afternoon

Pond Branch, SC (Paul Kirby) – A 9-year-old boy gave his family quite a scare after going missing for several hours Sunday afternoon in the Brodie Road area of Pond Branch and Fairview. His sudden disappearance caused the community to come together in an effort to search for and eventually find him.

The boy was reportedly riding a yellow bicycle when his mother noticed that he was gone and began to look for him. When she couldn’t find him, she notified authorities, family and friends, and the search began.

Many members of the newly formed Pond Branch TBOC Community Crime Watch joined in the search. Social media played a key role in getting the word out quickly regarding the missing child and continually updated the participants regarding the progress of the search.

Eventually, the search spanned a large geographic area. This included the Ben Franklin, Laura Brodie, Gary Hallman, and Two Notch Road areas as well as Bridgewater Road and the area around Camp Kinard.

Eventually, the child was located and returned to his family unharmed.
