House damaged by fire near Pine Grove Thursday night

Pine Grove, SC (Paul Kirby) A single family home was damaged by fire Thursday night in the 100 block of Melon Drive off Kitti Wake near Pine Grove. Neighbors called to report that there was smoke coming from the home around 8:30 p.m. There was some confusion on the part of the callers who could see smoke coming from the home, but were unsure exactly what street it was on because it was not on the street that they lived on or were calling from.

First arriving firefighters reported that they had light smoke showing on arrival. After investigating further, they reported the fire as a “working” fire, and reported that they believed that they had some fire that had extended into the attic area of the home. This indicates that they did have smoke, heat, and fire and that they are actively pulling hoses or using others means to find and extinguish the fire and ventilate the smoke and heat from the house.

There was a fire hydrant just a few doors down from the affected home and this kept the need for equipment and manpower to a minimum. Battalion 2 took command and directed the firefighting operations. Within 30 minutes, he reported that the fire was under control.

The American red Cross was notified so that they could offer assistance to the occupants of the home that were affected by the fire.
