Runner dies after being struck by a car Wednesday morning in Lexington

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) A runner that was struck by a car near the intersection of North Lake Drive and Sunset Boulevard has died. The accident occurred just before daybreak Wednesday morning.

The driver of the vehicle who struck the man called 911 and reported that she thought that she hit someone, but was unable to locate the injured pedestrian. When law enforcement officers arrived, they found him down an embankment near where the accident occurred.

Rescuers from fire and EMS responded and were able to begin treatment before bringing him up the embankment and loading him for transport to the hospital. A firefighter drove the ambulance to the hospital so that the EMS personnel could give their full attention to the injured man.

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has now identified the man who died as Mr. John Flanagan, 38, of Lexington.

The incident remains under investigation by the Lexington Police Department.
