Swimmer suspected of drowning near Lake Murray Dam early Sunday morning

Lake Murray, SC (Paul Kirby) – A Lexington man has died after slipping under the dark waters of Lake Murray near the dam around 2:00 a.m.Sunday morning. According to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher, she has scheduled an autopsy, but believes that the cause of death will be drowning,

Fisher said that Mr. Austin Carson, 23, of Lexington was swimming with a friend near the Lake Murray dam on July 2nd when he began struggling to stay afloat. He eventually was lost under the water. Carson’s body was recovered a short time later.

Fisher said that an autopsy has been scheduled for July 2, 2017 to determine the exact cause of Carson’s death.

The incident remains under investigation by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.
