Blowfish beat USC Alumni to take the Gamefish Cup
Lexington, SC - The second half of the Coastal Plain League season unofficially opened in promising fashion Saturday for the Lexington County Blowfish.
Saturday at Lexington County Baseball Stadium, the Blowfish defeated the University of South Carolina Alumni team 2-1 in the 11th annual Gamefish Cup. The victory snapped a 3-game losing streak in the series and regained the advantage in the annual matchup at 6-5.
Marshawn Taylor of Grambling University’s 2-run single in the fourth inning was the difference. He accounted for two of the team’s four hits.
The Blowfish pitching staff held the Gamecocks’ alumni team to just two hits, the lone run scoring on a passed ball thrown by Andrew Tilghman in the sixth.
The seventh inning saw both team’s pitchers strike out the side. Two-time national champion Matt Price fanned three straight batters in the top half of the inning, then was the final hitter fanned by Dominic Cuoci with the tying run on third base to end the game.
