Agencies band together to fight hunger in Swansea and across SC

Swansea, SC - The South Carolina Department of Education and End Child Hunger SC are partnering together for the 2nd Annual Summer Food Service Program Tour from July 10-14, 2017. The purpose of the tour is to bring awareness to the Summer Food Service Program which provides up to two free meals per day to kids and teens ages 18 and younger. This tour will highlight a total of eight various sites throughout the state of South Carolina this week including churches, libraries, United Way, Boys and Girls Club and YMCA sites.

One of Lexington County’s very own, Sardis Baptist Church in Swansea, South Carolina, served as the second tour stop on Monday, July 10th. Representatives from the SC Department of Education, End Child Hunger SC, and church members participated in the tour to see the great work occurring at Sardis Baptist Church. Sardis Baptist Church serves as both a site and sponsor for the Summer Food Service Program providing meals to their fifty-summer enrichment camp youth as well as the Wolfton Community Center in North. They have been involved with the Summer Food Service Program for three years and look forward to many more.

Students that participate in the Sardis Baptist Summer Enrichment Program will benefit from educational enrichment, hot home-cooked meals, and exciting field trips including popular kid destinations such as Hi-Wire, Regal Cinemas, Columbia Children’s Theatre, Swansea Library, and many more! One student stated that he ate and enjoyed all of the food on his plate! Sardis is truly committed to providing an enjoyable experience and safe conditions for local youth.

Sardis Baptist Church does not only open their doors to their enrichment program youth as they are also committed to serving healthy breakfast and lunch meals to additional youth.
