One dead in mobile home fire Thursday night near Gaston

Gaston, SC - A fire broke out at a mobile home in Gaston late Thursday evening resulting in the death of one individual.

County of Lexington 911 dispatched Fire Service and Emergency Medical Services personnel a residence in the 100 block of Renee Ct. just before 9 p.m. in reference to a mobile home fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke and flames coming from the home. Firefighters began an external fire attack, before proceeding inside the home to continue fire attack operations.

After entering the home, firefighters discovered an unconscious individual inside of the home. Firefighters brought the individual outside to receive medical attention by EMS, but the individual was unable to be resuscitated.

As firefighters continued to extinguish the fire, they also located a dog inside of the home, which was unconscious. Firefighters were able to revive the dog after utilizing a donated Pet Oxygen kit. The dog is currently in the care of the victim’s family members.

South Carolina Law Enforcement Division officials and Lexington County Sheriff’s Department investigators will investigate the cause and origin of the fire, while the Lexington County Coroner’s Office will investigate the victim’s cause of death.
