IRMO, SC – Lexington-Richland School District Five has named Ballentine Elementary School and the Center for Advanced Technical Studies as winners of its 2016-2017 Good School-keeping Awards.
The recognition honors schools that excel in the maintenance, cleanliness and appearance of classrooms, school grounds and other facilities. This year’s winners were announced at the July 17 school board of trustees meeting and presented banners to display at their schools.
“Our custodial staff has an important role in providing a clean and well-maintained learning environment,” said Steve Kane, a district staff member who helps present the awards. “The district’s Good School-keeping Awards are a way to recognize their wonderful work and dedication. Our staff takes great pride in their work and they do a great job. This is our way of saying thank you for all that they do.”
The awards are divided into two categories: elementary schools and intermediate/middle/high schools. All District Five schools were rated based on an evaluation of several areas including building entrances, restrooms, classrooms, administrative offices and other spaces. Judges said that while the overall appearances of all District Five schools were impressive, Ballentine Elementary and the Center for Advanced Technical Studies facilities stood out.
“What an honor to have been recognized three out of the past four years,” said Ballentine Elementary principal Robin Bright. “Our custodial staff is an amazing team that takes such great pride in our school. They go above and beyond to ensure that our students walk into a bright, clean, safe and welcoming school every day!”
The Center for Advanced Technical Studies director Dr. Al Gates said, “It is an honor to receive the Good School-keeping Award. Our custodial staff is considered part of our ambassadorial staff. They ensure that students’ and visitors’ first impression of the Center is positive and lasting. Our custodial staff demonstrates professionalism every day and we appreciate their hard work!”
“District Five takes great pride in its facilities and the support staff members who work each day to ensure our schools remain top quality sites,” said District Five Superintendent Dr. Stephen Hefner. “We want to congratulate the winners of this year’s Good School-keeping Awards and thank all our facilities staff for what they do to make our district great!”
