Sheriff’s divers participating in follow up investigation in Paxton Pond
Pond Branch, SC (Paul Kirby) – Several people recently noticed that there were sheriff’s department divers operating in Paxton Mill Pond in the Pond Branch area of the county. Paxton Pond is at the intersection of Paxton Pond and Pond Branch Roads, west of Old Charleston Road between Red Bank and Leesville.
Captain Adam Myrick of the sheriff’s office says that the divers were in the area conducting a follow-up operation as part of an ongoing investigation.
Often divers are used to recover evidence used during the commission of a crime from bodies of water. These items could include firearms, burglary tools, stolen items, and other evidence of a crime.
The sheriff’s office has several experienced divers on staff that are well trained in the recovery of all types of items. Their boats and most of their water related equipment is housed at Bundrick Island on Lake Murray. They share that facility with SC State DNR officers.
