East Point Academy Sets New Leadership

West Columbia, SC - Primed for an exciting and successful school year, East Point Academy has set their new leadership team, with the naming of new board officers, new board members and a new Head of School. East Point Academy is South Carolina’s first whole school Chinese immersion public charter school, setting the standard of educational excellence in immersion education through rich curriculum and academic excellence.

The East Point Academy (EPA) Board of Directors elected five new members and assigned new officer roles for the coming school year. The new board members are Alan Buck, Lisa Cole, Dr. Sali Li, Lora Prill and Emmy Zhang.

Buck is a client relations executive at Ingenico Mobile Solutions. He specializes in business leadership, contract negotiations and team building. Cole is a freelance writer and social media specialist who is skilled in non-profit marketing and grass roots advertising. Prill is a partner at ADCO. She brings expertise in brand marketing, communications and business development. Li is an associate professor at the University of South Carolina. He has years of experience in international business leadership, international entrepreneurship and emerging economies.Zhang is the audit manager at the Office of the State Auditor. She has extensive experience in the financial sector, is a certified public accountant, a certified fraud examiner and a certified internal auditor.

Following the swearing in of new board members, board officers were elected. Joan Hoffman was elected as the Board Chair. Asked about her election to Chair, she said “I am honored to serve as the Board Chair for East Point Academy. Our new board members bring a wealth of experience and passion for education to the Board. We are looking forward to a productive year as we continue the legacy of excellence at East Point.” Dr. Kevin Lu and Dr. Mieke Perez will act as Co-Vice Chairs. Tom Queen was re-elected as the Board Secretary. Zhang was elected as the Board Treasurer and Cole was elected as the Board Member at Large.

Mr. Mark Bounds, announced as Head of School in June, brings 17 years of education experience in various leadership positions to the school. He also spent 20 years serving our country as an Army officer. Bounds said, “It is so great to be part of the East Point team. I look forward to working alongside our fantastic Board as we prepare our students for bright futures.”
