Attached garage destroyed by fire near Mack Edisto Friday night

Mack Edisto, SC (Paul Kirby) – A fire destroyed a large garage attached to a beautiful home in the 1000 block of Cedar Creek Road near Mack Edisto Friday night. The fire was reported sometime around 9:00 p.m., and when the first fire units arrived on the scene, they found heavy fire coming from the garage.

The driveway was long and wooded and firefighters had to set up a rural water shuttle operation to tank water into the scene. They were drawing the water from several creeks nearby to fill the trucks. Eventually, the driveway’s condition got very muddy, adding to the challenges of stopping the fire. Even with these obstacles to overcome, our firefighters were able to prevent the fire from substantially spreading to the home and destroying it.

Firefighters from multiple stations, assisted by personnel from EMS and the sheriff’s department, responded from all across the county to assist in fighting the fire. Crews were eventually on the scene from as far away as Gilbert and South Congaree. Fire commanders moved available equipment around to fill in at empty stations in order to protect areas drained of resources by the blaze.

The garage was completely destroyed by the fire. The exact cause of the fire hasn’t been released.
