Lexington District 3 Named as a Google Reference District
Batesburg-Leesville, SC - Lexington County School District 3 is pleased to announce that it has been named as a Google Reference District. Google for Education Reference Districts are districts that demonstrate excellence and thought leadership through the innovative use of technology, including G Suite for Education (formerly known as Google Apps for Education and Chromebooks, to drive impact and positive learning outcomes. According to Andrea Derrick, Lexington 3 Digital Learning Coach, being named as a Google Reference District is an awesome accomplishment for the district’s teachers and students. This will provide continued growth in the G Suite platform and the impact that it has on learning in the classroom.
The initial 1:1 rollout for Lexington 3 schools took place in February 2016, when all middle and high school students received Chromebooks. At that time, training was provided for teachers and students through iSchools. Informational parent programs were provided as well. During the 2016-17 school year, the 1:1 initiative was extended to include grades 3-12. By selecting the GSuite Platform, which is provided free to schools through Google, the district is able to provide a full learning management system for its students that is consistent from class to class and building to building. Professional development and growth continues to be a focus for schools, as a means to ensure personal digital devices support and integrate seamlessly into quality, sound instructional practices.
The Google Reference District distinction is gained through invitation by GSuite for Education. Acceptance of the invitation requires completion of an Impact Study, which reviews past, present and future plans involved in technology integration, as well as compiling and sharing successful best practices. Lexington 3 will be featured on the GSuite for Education Director, allowing other schools to have the opportunity to connect, visit and learn from the district’s implementation process. Lexington District 3 also hosted a Google Certification Training Academy on June 14 and 15 to provide further training in the GSuite platform for district teachers and teachers from surrounding areas. Lexington 3 currently has 3 Google Certified Educators including: Paul Spence, Level 1; Samantha Trotter, Level 1 & 2: and Andrea Derrick, Level 1 & 2.
