Home on Lake Murray damaged by fire Thursday morning

Lake Murray, SC (Paul Kirby) A fire damaged a home in the 300 block of Longview Point on the banks of Lake Murray Thursday morning. The call that the house was on fire came in at approximately 10:30 a.m.

First due personnel reported that they did have smoke coming from the structure when they arrived and believed that the fire might have been in the walls of the home. As more crews got to the scene, they gathered their crews and made a fire attack from the interior of the home.

Firefighters from multiple stations responded to the call to assist. Much of the equipment that was dispatched was tanker trucks because of the absence of an established water system in that area. At one point, the battalion chief checked the availability of one of the sheriff’s departments boats that are capable of pumping water from the lake to fire trucks. These are housed at Bundrick Island behind Sandy Beach. They can pump large amounts of water through a water cannon mounted in the front of the boat or to fire equipment on land via hoses that would be stretched to the boats.

Some trucks were moved to standby assignments as crews from the closest stations fought the fire. These were released as soon as the fire was marked under control and the committed resources began clearing the scene.

Officials from the fire service have not released the exact cause of the fire or the extent of damage to the home.
