Chapin to Host Walk to Promote Downtown Walking Routes

Chapin, SC – The Town of Chapin will be hosting Chapin Circuits, a walk event designed to promote an active community environment that supports healthy choices among its residents and fosters getting to know our Chapin neighbors.

The walk will take place on Saturday, October 7, prior to the Chapin Downtown Farmer’s Market. Registration begins at 7:00 am at the Mt. Horeb parking lot on East Boundary Street, and the walk starts at 8:00 am. The route is 1.5 miles and goes down Columbia Avenue to the Chapin Town Hall, and then walkers come back down Columbia Avenue to Lexington Avenue and then up to Beaufort Street.

Funded in part by a grant from Eat Smart Move More Lexington County, the town has developed a brochure outlining three downtown walking routes that citizens can use to be more active. Those will be available at the farmer’s market, walk event and online.

Studies show the benefits of walking at least 30 minutes a day include reducing one’s risk of heart disease and obesity, lowering blood pressure and blood sugar levels, and improving mental health.

“Promoting an active community environment in Chapin has many benefits, including improving health and reducing illness,” said Chapin Mayor Skip Wilson. “Communities that are pedestrian friendly also experience economic and environmental benefits as well, with increased property values, lower emissions and reduced traffic congestion. And when people are walking along our sidewalks, they are more likely to meet and communicate with neighbors they come across on their walk than they would if they were in a car. We hope to see more people get out and walk around Chapin.”

The first 100 people to register for Chapin Circuits will receive a free sports water bottle. The form to register is available on the town’s website (, and there is no cost to register.
