Wednesday night fire destroys a shed, burns a man in Swansea

Swansea, SC (Paul Kirby) A man was seriously injured when a shed burned Wednesday night in the Swansea area of the county. The call came in regarding the fire in the 400 block of Bud Rish Road in Swansea just after 8:00 p.m. last night.

The first fire truck from the county’s Swansea station arrived quickly, and reported that the building was fully involved. The original caller had reported that a man was on fire, and a Lexington County EMS crew began to treat that person as soon as they arrived.

A helicopter was dispatched to a nearby landing zone to transport the injured person to the hospital. The EMS crew treated that man on the scene, and then transported him by ground to the landing zone where patient care was transferred to the Lifenet crew. Another fire station was dispatched to that location to set up the landing zone and stand fireguard when the helicopter landed.

The fire was brought under control by the personnel from the fire service quickly. They have not released the cause of the fire, or how the man caught fire.
