David Knight announces he will run for mayor of Chapin

Chapin, SC - David W. Knight has announced his candidacy for Mayor of the Town of Chapin, promising to “restore democracy to Chapin.” He says he will restore a close working relationship between the mayor and the town council and that he will give the public, whether or not they are town residents, an opportunity to be heard before council concerning items on the agenda, as well as other matters of concern.

Knight said, “I have much experience working for the Town of Chapin. I was appointed as Chapin’s Town Attorney on July 7, 1987, and spent decades handling utility contracts with developers, working with annexation proceedings, drafting ordinances, and a lot more until the current administration took over and the position of Town Attorney was eliminated. I support Council’s belief that Chapin needs the regular services of a competent municipal attorney who can advise the mayor and the council.”

“I was one of the founding members of the Chapin Kiwanis Club in 1988 – and later assisted in the merger of the Kiwanis Club into the Chapin Merchants Association to form the Greater Chapin Chamber of Commerce in 1991. I served on the Chamber’s first Board of Directors, and chaired the Labor Day Festival Car Show from 1991-94. I chaired the Adopt-a-Highway program through the Chamber for Highway 48 (Columbia Avenue) for more than 20 years.“In 2010, the Chamber honored me with its “Lifetime Achievement Award.” In 2012, I was inducted into the Town of Chapin’s Hall of Fame.

“Holly Martin Keeton and I were married in June 1983. We moved to Chapin in April 1986 with her children, Joe and Janis, and joined Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church, where I served on the Church Council during the construction of the new education wing.

“I was a member of Lake Murray Sailing Club for several years, and was Commodore in 1988 when a new club house was constructed.

“I moved my law office to Chapin in 1990 where I continue a civil practice.”
