Coroner identifies victim of early morning boating accident

Lexington, SC - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher is releasing the identity of the person killed in an early morning boat vs. dock accident near Wessinger Island and Heimatsweg Road on the Chapin side of Lake Murray on August 13, 2017 in Lexington County. Coroner Margaret Fisher said that the accident is believed to have happened around 6:00 A.M.

Coroner Fisher states that Jimmy Gene Ayers, 57, of Lexington died at the scene from multiple traumatic injuries to the upper body that he sustained in the accident. A nephew of the victim was transported to Palmetto Health Richland hospital with multiple non-life threatening injuries.

An autopsy will be performed on August 14, 2017 to determine the cause of death.

South Carolina DNR is continuing to investigate the accident at this time.
