Lexington, S.C. (August 27, 2017) – With the first week of school complete, officers of the Lexington Police Department Traffic Division and Community Action Team (C.A.T.) will continue to be assigned to all Lexington County School District One campuses in the Town of Lexington with a focus on traffic enforcement.
Officers working the School Zone Traffic Safety Enforcement Plan will be active at Lexington Elementary School, Meadow Glen Elementary School, New Providence Elementary School, Lexington Middle School, Meadow Glen Middle School, River Bluff High School and Rosenwald Community Learning Center during morning drop off and afternoon pickup.
Officers will be conducting radar enforcement in posted school zones while also looking for traffic signal violations, failure to yield for crossing guards in cross walks, passing of stopped school buses, texting while driving, and seat belt and child passenger seat violations.
Chief Terrence Green said, “An ongoing strategic goal of the Lexington Police Department continues to be to improve traffic safety and this certainly includes the areas where school zones have been designated in the Town of Lexington. Drivers should always be alert in school zones as children can be present in cross walks and drivers need to be alert to the high volume of vehicles and school buses that enter and exit campus driveways each morning and afternoon. A child’s safety should never be in jeopardy over a careless driver’s inattention or impatience.”
