Deputies assist Lexington P.D. in apprehension of car thief Monday afternoon

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – Lexington police officers called for assistance from sheriff’s deputies Monday afternoon after a car thief abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot near the intersection of Hope Ferry Road and Sunset Boulevard. Police officers were already in the area at a business investigating the report of a stolen vehicle. When a second man saw the officers, he left the vehicle he was in behind and ran.

According to Corporal Cameron Mortenson of the Lexington P.D., sheriff’s deputies who were in the area assisting them quickly located the fugitive and placed him under arrest. After officer checked the identification of the vehicle he was driving, it too came back as stolen.

The man has been booked into the Lexington County Detention Center on a number of charges.
