South Congaree hires new town clerk
South Congaree, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Town of South Congaree has hired Melody Murphy as its new town clerk. Murphy is a native of Arab, Alabama and moved to the Midlands of SC to be near her daughter, son-in-law, and her four grandchildren in December of 2015. She lives in the Irmo area of Lexington County.
Murphy is experienced in town government, community growth, and business development. In Alabama, she worked for the mayor of the town of Arab before joining the local chamber of commerce as its vice president. She stayed in that position for more than seven years.
Not one to sit on her laurels, she went to work for Publix on Harbison Boulevard as an event planner when she moved to South Carolina. She stayed there until she found the South Congaree opening through the state’s jobs website. She worked out a notice at Publix and started the South Congaree job on August 14th.
Murphy said during a recent interview that she loved the Midlands of SC. “The people are so nice,” Murphy said. “Now, I’m getting to know the South Congaree area, its people, and I’m so excited to be able to work for this town.” She went on to say that the equestrian arena on Oak Street was one of the things that really impressed her when she was recently given a tour by Council Member Jean Wilson.
Murphy’s office is at the town hall at 119 West Berry Road, in South Congaree, SC. She can be reached by phone at (803) 755-2760 or by e-mail at mmurphy@southcongaree.org.
