Cayce DPS collecting supplies for Hurricane Harvey victims

Cayce, SC (Paul Kirby) The Cayce Department of Public Safety is teaming up with local schools and churches to help with the hurricane relief for the people of Texas.

Hurricane Harvey has caused a major disaster across the state of Texas. It is estimated that nearly 13 million people have been affected by the rising flood waters across both Texas and western Louisiana. To bring that into perspective, only 5 million people reside in the entire state of South Carolina.

In the past few years, we have faced two devastating storms. In October of 2015 we faced the “1,000 Year Flood.” Then again last year, Hurricane Matthew struck our state. Although the Midlands wasn’t hit as hard as other communities, the town of Nichols, SC was completely flooded, as were others.

These horrifying events brought our community together. The City of Cayce, as well as many others, had police officers, and fire fighters respond to lend a hand in places like Nichols. They were joined by personnel from EMS, the SC National Guard, and volunteers from all over the country who came to our state’s aid. Now, the good people of the Cayce Department of Public Safety believe that it's OUR time to give back to the ones that gave to us.

The Cayce DPS will be accepting donations at their fire department which is located at the corner of 12th Street and Frink Street (2 Lavern Jumper Road) in the city. They will be accepting items like nonperishable foods (canned, boxed, bagged & dehydrated) items, hygiene products for men, women, and children, unopened over the counter medications, first aid supplies, some clothing items, cleaning supplies, and pet care and pet foods.

The folks in Cayce say this is just their way of saying “Thank You" to all the folks who helped us in our time of need. Please consider donating today.
