Body of missing boater recovered

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said Sunday that the body of a missing boater, Durham Delaura, has been recovered from Lake Murray. I'm His remains were discovered approximately 10:00 A.M. on September 3, 2017 near the area of Lake Murray known as Sandy Beach.

The recovery was made with the help of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and officers from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. The area where Delaura’s body was found is close to the joint law enforcement base known as Bundrick Island where the county and DNR officers are headquartered on the lake.

The body was discovered in the water by a Lexington County Sheriff’s Deputy operating one of the county’s Marine Patrol boats. LCSD and SC DNR have been actively searching the area for the missing boater since August 25, 2017.

An autopsy will be performed on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 to determine the cause of death for Mr. Delaura.
