Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identifies victim of fatal car crash on I-20
Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the individual who died due to a single vehicle accident on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at approximately 7:00 P.M. on Interstate 20. The accident occurred in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 60 in Lexington County.
According to Fisher, Mr. Wyatt Dakota Duval, 21, of Lugoff was killed after he was ejected from the vehicle in which he was a passenger.
According to the SCHP, the driver of the car in which Duval was a passenger was travelling at a high rate of speed in the area of the construction on the interstate when he attempted to pass other vehicles in an area that had been closed to traffic. His car left the roadway to the right and overcorrected, causing the vehicle to overturn multiple times. Duval, who was not wearing a seatbelt when the accident occurred, died at the scene due to injuries sustained after being thrown from the car. The driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
An investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol is ongoing.
