Coroner releases cause of death of boater who went missing on Lake Murray

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has released the results of an autopsy performed on the body of a boater who went missing on August 25th of this year on Lake Murray. Th accident happened near Panorama Point west of Lexington. Fisher said that the results show that Durham Alexander DeLaura died of drowning.

DeLaura apparently fell overboard from his small boat, leaving his four-year-old daughter adrift. She was discovered by some people on land who saw her alone and went out to retrieve her.

DeLaura’s body was recovered from Lake Murray on September 3, 2017 by officers from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department’s Marine Patrol Division who had been searching for him since he went missing. They had been assisting officers from the SCDNR in the effort to find and recover the missing man.

The final report of the investigators with the SCDNR has not yet been released by that department.
