County of Lexington Emergency Operation Center moves into Operational Condition 4

Lexington, SC - The County of Lexington Emergency Operation Center has moved into Operational Condition 4, which means a partial activation of the emergency operation center and active monitoring of Hurricane Irma.

Although Hurricane Irma’s path is still being forecasted, the County’s Emergency Operations Center stands at the ready for any and all weather outcomes. Our seasoned employees train for weather events year round, and we are confident that they will rise, as they’ve done before, to ensure the lives and properties of our residents remain safe and secure.

County of Lexington officials, along with officials from several municipal, county and state agencies, convened Thursday at 3 p.m. to discuss preparations for Hurricane Irma. At this time, all emergency personnel are currently standing by and making necessary preparations for severe weather conditions.

The forecasted, potential impacts of a severe-weather to our County include heavy rains, localized flooding, high-wind gusts and tornado activity.

Owners and operators of private dams, reservoirs and ponds are advised to begin lowering the water levels of their bodies of water ahead of Hurricane Irma, which could bring heavy wind and rain to the Midlands. Loss of soil from a dam can impact its structural integrity and can provide a path for water from the pond to exit in an uncontrolled manner. This condition may lead to failure of the dam.

Residents are urged to also monitor local media, as well as the County’s website (lex-co.sc.gov) and social media channels (Twitter: @CountyLex; Facebook: County of Lexington) for updated County information throughout the storm.
