Sheriff’s department investigating shooting incident at 44 Truck Stop near I-20

Leesville, SC (Paul Kirby) The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is on the scene of another shooting incident at the 44 Truck Stop in the Pond Branch area. This incident occurred just before 8:00 p.m. as deputies and SLED agents were still on the scene of another shooting incident that occurred off Devil’s Backbone Road on the other side of Leesville. There, a deputy shot at a man who was brandishing a handgun earlier in the afternoon.

According to Captain Adam Myrick, spokesman for the department, no one was struck during the second shooting at the truck stop. He gave no indication that there was any evidence that the two incidents were related.

According to an eyewitness, the people that were involved immediately fled the scene after the shots were fired. The truck stop is located at an intersection where many secondary roads and Interstate 20 provide ample routes for the perpetrators to escape.

We will update this story as the investigation continues.
