Wreck traps two in West Columbia neighborhood

West Columbia, SC – At least two were trapped, and more were injured, after a vehicle overturned on Hummingbird Drive near Redbird Drive in the Westover Acres neighborhood Saturday evening. This is just off Sunset Boulevard between Botanical Parkway and Fred Anderson Toyota on the Saluda River side of Hwy. 378 in the city of West Columbia. Both officers from the West Columbia Police Department, EMS crews from Lexington County, and firefighters from the city’s FD responded.

Police officers arrived on the scene first where the vehicle had overturned. When firefighters arrived, they confirmed that two patients were still trapped in the wreckage. EMS began caring for the patients while the fire crews used specialized tools to free the trapped people from the twisted remains of the vehicle. In a short time, they had extricated the two, and then assisted EMS with all the injured. Police officers assisted with traffic to keep all the rescuers and patients were safe until the injured were transported, and then they helped to clear the road with the vehicle recovery crew that was called.

All patients were transported to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries. Their conditions have not been released. The police department has not said if they have charged anyone as a result of the wreck.
