District Three Teacher of the Year awarded car

Batesburg-Leesville, SC - On Wednesday, September 27th, Batesburg-Leesville Middle School teacher Courtney Ingle was named the 2017-2018 District Three Teacher of the Year during the District’s annual Teacher of the Year Banquet at Southern Occasions. Courtney was selected from four finalists including Randi Curry from B-L Primary School, Jessica McCleskey from B-L Elementary School and Paul Spence from B-L High School.

In addition to a host of other prizes, Courtney was also given the keys to a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu, courtesy of Herlong Chevrolet-Buick of Batesburg-Leesville. Courtney will have the privilege of driving the vehicle for the remainder of the 2017-2018 school year. This is the first time in Lexington School District Three history that a prize of this magnitude has been awarded to a District Three Teacher of the Year. According to officials with South Carolina Future Minds, the vehicle donation also makes Lexington Three one of only three districts statewide that provides a car to its District Teacher of the Year winner.

This is Courtney’s third year at Batesburg-Leesville Middle School where she teaches sixth-grade English/Language Arts. Courtney is a graduate of the University of South Carolina where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in English, Language and Literature and a graduate of Grand Canyon University where she received a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. Growing up, Courtney admits that she struggled in school with reading, writing and comprehension. Her mother, though, was dedicated to making sure Courtney succeeded in school and worked tirelessly to turn her educational experience into a positive one. As a result, Courtney was inspired to become a teacher so that she could also help shape children the same way her mother had done for her. Courtney’s philosophy of teaching includes letting her students know that she’s one of their biggest supporters and is 100% invested in their individual successes.

Courtney, along with the other finalists, received a complimentary Chromebook, engraved plaques, and other gifts courtesy of Lexington School District Three. In addition to the donor car from Herlong Chevrolet-Buick, other gifts were graciously provided by Boutique 527, Julie Kornet, Kenneth Shuler Schools of Cosmetology, Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative, Oswald Lumber, Shealy’s BBQ, Shear Pleasure Hair Salon, Sweet Simplicity, Unique Image Salon, WISP Hair Salon, Wiz’s Eatery and the Woman’s Society of Batesburg-Leesville.

Courtney will go on to compete in the South Carolina State Teacher of the Year competition, which begins in January.
