Fatal fire in home Sunday in the Sandy Run area of Lexington County being investigated by SLED

Sandy Run, SC (Paul Kirby) A fatality has been reported in a fire that occurred off Hubbs Road in the Sandy Run area of the county after 3:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Firefighters were dispatched to the home and when they arrived they found it well involved in fire. Hubbs Rd. is located off Hwy. 21 south, just southeast of the town of Swansea in the Horses Neck area of the county.

According to David Kerr, Lexington County’s Director of Public Safety, firefighters discovered a body in the burned-out home once they had the fire under control. In accordance with Lexington County policy, SLED has been notified to assist in the investigation of this fatal fire.

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher also has personnel enroute to the home as a part of the investigation. Her department will assist the investigation by determining the individual’s cause of death. She will not release the name of the victim of this fire until she has notified their families.
