Sandy Run fire victim apparently committed suicide after starting fire

Sandy Run, SC - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher released a statement Tuesday that indicates that the victim of the Hubbs Rd. fire Sunday near Sandy Run, apparently shot himself after he had set the home on fire. The fire service responded to the fire shortly after 3:00 p.m. Sunday. When they arrived, they found the home well involved in fire.

Coroner Fisher identified the individual found deceased in a residential structure fire as Mr. Ian S. Gale, 79. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the fire.

An autopsy, performed on Tuesday, October 3, 2017, determined that Mr. Gale died as the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The fire remains under investigation by SLED.
