Oak Grove students escape the box on Dot Day

Lexington, SC - In celebration of International Dot Day on September 15, 2017, Oak Grove Elementary completed fun and educational activities. But first, they had to unlock them.

International Dot Day began in 2009 when Terry Shay introduced his class to “The Dot” by Peter H. Reynolds. Since then, classrooms around the world have celebrated the story that’s inspired students to “make their mark” on the world.

OGES students participated in International Dot Day activities with the help of Math Coach Kim T. Shealy and Art Teacher Merrissa Y. Ritch. Using materials from Breakout EDU, they challenged students in grade 3 to 5 to “escape the box” by solving puzzles to unlock their activity.

Students had to synergize with their team, solve the puzzles and use their art knowledge to unlock five boxes within 45 minutes. Ritch also created a modified version for first- and second-graders.
