Swansea/Gaston, SC (Allen Sharpe) - Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” I happen to think he was and is correct. When I ponder this quote I often think of the ‘world’ as if it were something far away from me, but it isn’t. Lexington School District Four and the children of our district are equally a part of that very same world.
We have an obligation to the students of our school district. That obligation begins with ensuring that the educational needs of our children are met. It also means we should do our best to provide the needed academic and moral support to the nearly 78% of students who are living in poverty right here in our community. That very same requirement also demands we provide our educators with both the recognition they deserve and the resources they need in order to cultivate and sustain thriving learning environments. It will require an even deeper improvement of relationships and collaboration building, between our school board, school administrators, and the entire community working together to advance strategies that will increase student success.
All parents want the best for their children and for their communities; the parents of our district are no exception. I believe education is the key to unlocking better futures for our children and I believe it will strengthen our community. When children learn, they grow in mind and spirit. The passion for learning is a community experience, with each of us doing our part. That passion becomes a determined spirit and through that spirit, we can reduce poverty, enhance the economic growth of our community, raise individual incomes, and be home to some of South Carolina’s brightest young scholars. All of these things are important to the place we call home.
For these reasons and more, I humbly ask for your support in the upcoming October 17th Special Election for Lexington School District Four School Board. I welcome the opportunity to join current school board members in their efforts to build up our community.
