Employee injured after firearm accidental discharge during SCANA training
Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) An employee of SCANA, the parent company of SCE&G, sustained a minor leg injury due to an accidental discharge of a handgun at a firing range near Lexington and the Lower Saluda River Thursday afternoon. According to Eric Boomhower, Director of Public Affairs for the Cayce based company, that employee was transported by Lexington EMS to an area hospital for treatment. A Lexington County fire crew also responded to assist on the scene prior to transport.
Boomhower said in a statement that SCANA security personnel, who are SLED-certified and licensed concealed weapons training instructors, were conducting a concealed weapons training session when the accident occurred. He said that as the weapon was being holstered, it accidentally discharged striking the individual.
