Lexington Three expands technology initiative to include second grade
Batesburg-Leesville, SC (Andrea Derrick and Ashley Fort) - Lexington County School District Three is extending its 1:1 technology initiative to include second grade students this school year. Beginning in November, all second graders will be provided with a Chromebook, a Google account and internet access on a daily basis. While Lexington Three’s second graders were often engaged in digital environments to further their learning last year through shared devices, this 1:1 initiative will allow teachers to leverage digital learning to an even higher degree.
In preparation for this rollout, all second grade students are currently enjoying Computer Science Classes in the Batesburg-Leesville Primary School Media Center with Media Specialist Amy Bedenbaugh and Media Assistant Dee Stewart. Lesson plans for this first nine weeks of school have been designed to familiarize students with logging in and accessing gSuite Apps, specifically Google Classroom for workflow.
While the students are busy learning, BLPS second grade teachers are preparing for this transition as well by working with the Digital Learning Coaches to prepare professional learning opportunities focused on classroom management in digital environments, Google Classroom for workflow and other strategies to increase student engagement.
This expansion now means that Lexington Three’s 1:1 technology initiative spans grades 2 through 12.
