S.C. Pops to Present British Invasion Performance Today Sunday, October 22 at Harbison Theatre

Philharmonic will put orchestral spin on classics from the Who, Beatles, and others.

Irmo, SC (James Bowers) - The Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College is hosting the South Carolina Philharmonic for an exciting performance of favorites from 1960s British artists. The renowned ensemble will play arrangements of pieces such as “007-Through The Years," a Stephen Bulla penned medley of classic James Bond themes and Bruce Healey’s “Love Is All You Need-A Tribute to the Beatles.” This a piece that weaves together Beatles' hits including All My Loving, Yesterday, and others. Other selections include tunes from classic British rockers such as the Who and Deep Purple.

The SC Pops will be led by conductor Morihiko Nakahara. The performance is scheduled for 3:30pm at the Harbison Theatre located at 7300 College Street, just off Lake Murray Boulevard in Irmo.

Many people who have never been to an orchestral performance will appreciate this concert, which kicks off the sixth season of performances at Harbison Theatre. “It is a really nice mix of contemporary and classical music," said Harbison Theatre executive director Kirstin Cobb. “It is a great chance to hear the sounds of the orchestra.”

The dress is very causal, described by Cobb as “come as you are."

The three-concert series by the Pops also includes the already sold out Holiday Pops on December 10 and an April 8 production called Wizards, Witches and Fantastic Beasts.

The Pops are not the only thing happening at the Harbison Theatre this season. The venue’s calendar for the next couple of months is highlighted by upcoming appearances by Canadian circus troupe Flip FabriQue, a gospel-jazz triple bill featuring The Blind Boys Of Alabama , Irma Thomas, as well as the Preservation Hall Legacy Quintet, and the Lake Murray Symphony Orchestra.

Tickets to British Invasion are priced at $30, and can be ordered either via the harbisontheatre.org website or by calling (803) 407-5011. Tickets can also be purchased today at Harbison Theatre’s onsite box office.
