Lexington’s Optimize CrossFit Hosts Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Monday
Innovative Fitness Center Now Located at 1156 South Lake Drive
Lexington, SC (James Bowers) - Many Lexington residents have been enjoying the grueling but beneficial style of exercise known as CrossFit since affiliate gym Optimize first came to town in 2010. Now, they have a little more working room, as the facility has moved from an 8500-square foot space at the Old Mill Shopping Center to a freestanding building at 1156 South Lake Drive in the Red Bank area.
The structure previously housed Lexington Gymnastics Academy and is twice the size of the Old Mill location. The new locale provides ample space for a CrossFit workout, housing all of the equipment required for the practice. Other services offered by the locally owned fitness center include personal training, a youth exercise program called IM Kids, and massages. The Lexington branch is one of three OptIMize outlets in the Midlands. There is a location in West Columbia on 34C Trotter Road and in downtown Columbia on 406 Williams Street.
According to Scott Brewer, General Manager of the Lexington location, CrossFit is based around functional movements that are constantly varied and done under high intensity. “We go harder and faster through a shorter period of time to get the best effects for your body and maximum fitness," Brewer said. “It’s proven through science and research." Brewer adds that a common myth about CrossFit is that you have to already be in peak condition to begin CrossFit. “That is not true at all, all you have to do is show up and be ready to work," Brewer stated. He added that the current owner of Optimize started the company after using CrossFit to lose significant amounts of weight during a period of serious health problems. The experience is very different from that of most chain gyms, as workouts are done under the supervision of a certified coach rather that solo without any guidance. Traditional one-on-one personal training is also available.
The new location has been open since September. The Lexington Chamber of Commerce honored the new facility with a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday. The Chamber's Connor Watkins says that having a company like Optimize is a positive addition to the organization and the community as a whole. “They encourage physical fitness and health. (OptiMize) can also give advice on leadership and discipline to other Chamber members," Watkins said. “We can really benefit from having a company involved in the field of fitness and health as a member because of the things they offer."
CrossFit won’t be the easiest workout you ever perform, but the success stories and 5-star rating on Facebook speak for themselves.
