SCDC escapee back in custody

Florence, SC (Paul Kirby) - Christopher P Sherer, an inmate with the SC Department of Correction that escaped a minimum-security facility in Florence, SC yesterday, has been recaptured. Sherer apparently had ties to the Chapin area of Lexington County and law enforcement officers here were notified of his escape in case he was headed this way.

Officials with the SCDC have not said how he escaped from custody, but the center that he was in was minimum security. They are conducting an investigation into that incident to determine exactly how he was able to leave the facility.
