Springdale, SC - Privilege Pharmacy Springdale is doubling their square footage to better serve the community. The pharmacy is moving from a 1,500-square foot facility to a 3,000-square foot facility in the same strip building behind the Bojangles at 3321 Platt Springs Rd at the intersection of Wattling and Platt Springs Road in Springdale (West Columbia).
According to Pharmacist George Dawn, the larger store will provide space for more convenience items, a larger selection of over-the-counter products, and a bigger, better area for non-sterile compounding a patient’s own personalized medications.
Non-sterile compounding of medications means that the store can make custom medications with the exception of the ones that come in pre-dosed sterile bags of fluids that are given intravenously. Non-sterile compounded medications are made based on a practitioner’s prescription. The doctor provides a list of individual ingredients which are mixed together in the exact strengths and dosages as required for the individual patient. It could be something as simple as making a medication that is normally in pill form a liquid, or as tough as mixing small amounts of medications that have a short shelf life of just a day or two. Compounding pharmacist even make medications for pets, and the staff at Privilege Pharmacy Springdale has shipped compounds for zoo animals all over the US.
Privilege Pharmacy Springdale is a small, hometown pharmacy that draws customers by providing affordable prices, free delivery, and friendly employees that will take the time to answer your questions simply and in terms you can understand. The entire staff was at Airport Pharmacy for many years and includes Angie, Lori, and George Dawn and Buster Phillips. All four have been immensely popular in the community and moved after Airport Pharmacy was sold, and later closed to walk in customers by its new owner.
Buster Phillips owned and operated Airport Pharmacy right outside of South Congaree for decades. He has always been well liked for his personal style and caring attitude. He’s also had a passion for the old style of making medicine from a doctor’s unique prescription tailored to the individual patient. For that reason, he has always enjoyed compounding instead of just counting out pre-made pills. He even developed his own brand of head lice treatment that has been very popular in the area because it has such a reputation for working well without causing a great deal of discomfort for the user like many commercial brands do. Now, he’s brought that style and personal touch to Privilege Pharmacy Springdale.
According to the business' owner, the new facility should be ready to open by the end of 2017. As a thank you for the community’s support, they will have a grand re-opening and ribbon cutting once the new locations remodel is completed. The Ledger will update the community on the dates for that event as it draws closer.
