Brown and his Evidence Dance Company will showcase “Poignant” Moves with “Feeling the Love”

Irmo, SC (James Bowers) - Lexington County residents have a chance to see some of the greatest active contemporary dancers when Ronald K. Brown brings his Evidence Dance Company to Harbison Theater on November 4. The troupe will present three pieces as part of a show they call “Feeling The Love." The title is reflective of the group’s mission statement: “To move in honor of the great mystery of love."

According to Harbison Theater’s press release for the event, selections for Saturday’s show are “Four Corners," “Corners," and “New Conversations," a piece which will make its world debut at the Harbison Theater performance. The performance will be followed by a Q&A session, where attendees can ask Brown and the troupe about their craft.

According to Harbison Theatre Executive Director Kristin Cobb, event goers will marvel at the technicality of Evidence’s work. Cobb calls their style of dance “pure grace."

The New York Times describes Evidence Dance Company’s work as ’’ Movement melted off shoulders and fingertips without effort. Power emanated from the inside and then flowed out with searing swiftness, the rare sort that isn’t ostentatious.” The Brooklyn, New York based Evidence aims to craft a style of dance that blends traditional African styles with contemporary choreography.

Ron Brown established Evidence in 1985. Since then, the company has produced several acclaimed works such as “One Shot: Rhapsody in Black and White” and “Two Year Old Gentleman." Awards won by Evidence and Brown individually include the Fred and Adele Astaire Award for Outstanding Choreography in a Musical and the United States Artists Rose Fellowship Award. Brown and Evidence have performed and held workshops all over the globe.

In addition to the Harbison Theatre Performance, EDC will hold two workshops in the Columbia area this weekend. The troupe will hold a masterclass at Columbia College’s Godbold Center on Friday, November 3 at 7pm.. Evidence will also host a liturgical dance workshop at Bible Way Church of Atlas Road on November 4 at 10am.This class is open to all ages, experience, and skill levels.
