Jimmy Chao joins East Point Academy Board of Directors
West Columbia, SC - The East Point Academy Board of Directors swore in a new Board Member at their October board meeting. Jimmy Chao joined the Board filling a position that was recently vacated.
Mr. Chao will serve a two-year term on the Board at a critical time for East Point Academy. The school has experienced significant growth and is currently building a new state of the art Elementary School and renovating their current campus as a Middle School. Chao brings experience as a successful business owner, entrepreneur, educator and community volunteer to the Board.
Mr. Chao is President of Chao and Associates, Inc, an engineering consulting firm specializing in civil and structural engineering, which he founded in 1987. He is an adjunct professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the University of South Carolina as well as an Advisory Board member. He serves on the Board of Directors at First Community Bank as a founding member and is Past Board Chair of the Lexington School District One Educational Foundation. Mr. Chao is a native Mandarin Chinese speaker and is an expert in Chinese culture and heritage.

We are very fortunate that he has agreed to serve on our Board. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our Board as we are expanding and enhancing our school. I know that he will make a positive difference for our school and the students who we serve," said East Point Academy Head of School Mark Bounds.
East Point Academy Board Chair Joan Hoffman added, "We are honored to have Mr. Chao join our Board of Directors. He is an accomplished business and community leader who has significant experience building and sustaining winning teams. I know he will bring that same dedication and vision to our Board."
East Point Academy is a Mandarin immersion public charter school in West Columbia, SC, serving over 550 students in preschool through eighth grade and was founded in 2011. East Point students receive half of their daily instruction in Mandarin Chinese. East Point Academy has been named a Palmetto Gold School and a 2017 South Carolina Public Charters School District School of Distinction.
