B-L Elementary students participate in "Girls on the Run"
Batesburg-Leesville, SC - 24 students at B-L Elementary School are participating in the “Girls on the Run” program this year. “Girls on the Run” is a nonprofit empowerment program that works to guide girls in third through eighth grades to be joyful, confident and healthy using a fun, experience-based curriculum that cleverly incorporates running, according to the “Girls on the Run” website.
Participants at B-L Elementary School meet twice a week after school to discuss lessons that promote positive emotional, social, mental and physical development. Participants analyze and talk about their own beliefs and feelings regarding experiences and challenges that girls their age are facing. They also develop strategies and gain adeptness to help them better navigate challenges that may come their way. Physical activity, such as running, is interlaced into the “Girls on the Run” curriculum to help participants develop a greater appreciation of fitness and to help build healthy habits.
At the end of the “Girls on the Run” session, the girls will participate in a 5K event.
