Chapin Veterans Parade celebrates America’s heroes on eve of Veteran’s Day
American Legion-sponsored event features vehicles with patriotic flair
Chapin, SC (James Bowers) - Residents of Chapin were greeted by a convoy of motorcycles ridden by some of America’s finest Friday, as the Chapin Post of the American Legion took part in the tenth annual Chapin Veterans' Parade. The event was started by Chapin’s Bill Wilson, himself a veteran, who wanted to honor his comrades with a community event. Since its beginning, the parade has marked each Veteran’s Day in the town of Chapin.
The parade route travels from Boland’s Ace Hardware into the heart of town, bypassing high traffic-locales such as the Publix and Food Lion Shopping Centers. The riders’ course concludes at Chapin Elementary School where they are greeted by a host of patriotic youngsters. The students then perform a musical program for the vets.
To those who have served our nation, it is a touching affair. “The support of the community means a lot," said John Siemers, First Vice Commander with the Chapin American Legion. “I’m glad to see people getting behind the veterans and supporting us." Siemers says that the best way to thank a veteran is to simply come out to events like the parade, and shake the hands of those who fought for America. Indeed, the reception of the parade was a warm one in the country-loving community of Chapin.
