East Point Academy teachers honored
West Columbia, SC - East Point Academy staff members Dr. Toneka Green and Annie Wang were presented with the Panda Professional of the Month awards Tuesday, November, 7. Green serves as the Curriculum Coordinator and Wang teaches second grade math, science and Mandarin.
Green was selected for her creation and refinement of effective curriculum guides, always being ready to assist teachers, providing mentorship and professional development, dealing with sensitive situations with thoughtfulness and care, always putting the needs of the school and students above her own needs and living the PANDA Core Values.
Wang was selected for the honor for setting the standard in management of teacher administrative systems such as grade and attendance record keeping, excellence in communication, being a team player who is always willing to help her fellow teachers, volunteering to help with a challenging student and living the PANDA Core Values.
The PANDA Core Values establish the cultural and behavioral expectations for the students and staff at East Point Academy.
EPA Board Co-Vice Chair Kevin Lu and EPA Board Treasurer Alan Buck were on hand to present the awards during the weekly staff meeting. Green and Wang received loud cheers and applause from their fellow teachers and staff when their names were announced.
“We are excited to reward our Panda Professionals today for their outstanding work. Consistently exhibiting the PANDA Core Values and providing excellent instruction to students is the goal at East Point Academy. We appreciate and cherish Dr. Green and Ms. Wang today for the work they do every day,” said Buck.
"We are very fortunate to have outstanding teachers and support staff at East Point Academy. Dr. Green and Ms. Wang have gone above and beyond to support our students and our school. They are hardworking, caring educators who serve as great role models for our students. They are truly deserving of the Panda Professional Award," added EPA Head of School Mark Bounds.
East Point Academy is a Mandarin immersion public charter school in West Columbia, SC, serving nearly 500 students in preschool through eighth grade and was founded in 2011. East Point students receive half of their daily instruction in Mandarin Chinese. East Point Academy has been named a Palmetto Gold School and a 2017 South Carolina Public Charter School District School of Distinction.
